nasutitermes walkeri

Brief description:
Much darker in colour then most termite species found in the Brisbane area. Termites in the Genus nasutitermes can easily be identified by the ‘fused mandibles’ on the soldier caste (Unlike most soldier castes which have two separated mandibles, this species head shaped with a sharp point or beak, replacing the mandibles)

Nesting Habits:
This species builds dark coloured arboreal nests (mounds on trees) and can be found throughout Brisbane’s bushland up in the trees, on stumps, on power poles/posts and are occasionally encountered nesting inside roof cavities.

Favourite Food: This species prefers decaying hardwood and significant damage to sound timber in service is considered a rare occurrence.
